A Month in Review: Coaching Consistency

April has been a month of quiet coaching. Each post this month has been about ways to organize, plan, and manage our creative practice and projects. From programming our practice like a workout regime that cares for our bodies, to choreographing our practice in such a way that we enter a flow state and dance with the creative energy we play with, to plotting a meticulous route from start to finish that helps us appreciate the journey as we make progress, each approach can suit different layers of the creative process and different creative personalities.  Consistency was a theme throughout each method; at its core structuring our creative practice and processes ensure we are able to be consistent in our creative lives.

It’s important that when I talk about consistency I also float flexibility into the discussion. Consistency is not the same thing as rigidity. Employing grace does not mean you have failed. Missing a day or a week or a month is not laziness or disrespect. Flexibility within consistency makes space for resilience to be built and trust to strengthen; two fundamental principles to living a creative life. I hope this month has awakened your inner creative coach - the one plotting strategy, encouraging harmony, and building plans to help you work smarter, not harder and lock into the creative project you are passionate about.

I have no stats to report this month. Instead, I want to share my journey with consistency this month; it was shit. I did not create aside from the blog posts. I did not post regularly on the instagram page. I did not stick to the posting schedule. Yet our home was transformed for Easter and spring’s return. My son and I had some epic dance parties and read ravenously. I moved my body more this month than previously, even if it’s decreased on the tail end. I am back to reading myself and have a new binge watch worthy show that brings me joy when the day is done. Professionally the clinic is growing and business is more than simply steady. A career where I get to serve our community, do something I love, and have creativity intricately embedded in the process is a privilege that, yes, often leaves me tired in the evenings and detracts from my personal creative endeavors; a blessing.
