Short and sweet today. ‘Tis the season after all. In fact, ‘tis the day of love in the month of love. February 14th. Valentine’s day. Whatever kind of love you celebrate - romantic, platonic, friendship, family, self - may it be full of love and life, reminding you that you and those you love are cherished this day and everyday.
Now that THAT is out of the way, let’s dig in! I want to bring a focus to celebrating or falling in love with your creativity. Whether you're still in the honeymoon phase, going through a rough patch or are in a committed albeit lackluster relationship, or even a volatile passionate affair with your creativity, it’s important to fan the flames of love for your creative soul. How might we do this? 3 C’s - because you know I love an alliterative triplet - create, consume, continue.

Create - date your craft
Never stop dating your creativity. The feeling of butterflies as a new idea whispers through your mind. The feel of new materials finding a home in your hands. It’s all so thrilling. Make what you love to make; not for another’s gaze or consumption, to make profit or to share, create simply for yourself. Date your own soul. Take yourself out to seek out your craft in a new setting or stay in and cozy up to learn more about it. Either way date your creativity - learn more about it, pursue it, create love by creating.
Consume - devour your love
It’s an addiction. The desire to explore this love of yours. Revelling in enjoyment and debauched delight as you take in more of the creativity you love. A source of inspiration and entertainment; to participate or observe, consume what you love to do. I for one am constantly devouring a good novel, watching a ballet, collecting books for their beauty and content. We cannot put out what we never take in, so drink up every moment of creativity in your life that you can. Take delight in filling your well with the creativity of others. Keep those fires burning by drinking your fill.
Continue - dedicate yourself
Love in enduring, may your commitment to your creativity be the same. This is a relationship like no other, one that sustains us that we may enter into relationship with others, and better understand the one we have with ourselves. Creativity is a source of strength, trial, and joy in our lives. This is a sacred relationship that also deigns to live in the everyday moments. Sometimes it feels mundane yet it always maintains a hint of the extraordinary. It calms and soothes as much as it frustrates and challenges. Dedicate yourself to its cultivation and reap the blooms. In enduring the rough patches you sink into the beauty of its love song.
